[ワシントン １日 ロイター] – 米海軍がホルムズ海峡でイランの機雷を探索するため、人工知能（ＡＩ）能力の強化を進めていることが明らかになった。
米海軍は先週、サンフランシスコのＡＩ企業ドミノ・データ・ラボに最大９９７０万ドルの契約を発注した。同社のソフトウエアは、水中ドローンが新型機雷を数日で識別できるよう学習させることが可能で、掃海プロセスの迅速化が期待される。
海軍は水中機雷探知の高速化、精度向上、兵士への依存低減を目的とする「海洋作戦向け機械学習加速化（ＡＭＭＯ）」プロジェクトを進めており、今回の契約はドミノの役割を拡大するものだ。
同社が関与する以前は、海軍の水中無人機（ＵＵＶ）を動かすＡＩモデルを更新し、未知の機雷を認識できるようにするには、最長６カ月かかる可能性があった。ドミノはそのサイクルを数日に短縮したとしている。
