［ワシントン １０日 ロイター］ – ヘグセス米国防長官は１０日、この日のイラン攻撃が「これまでで最も激しい日になるだろう」と言明した。
ヘグセス長官は記者会見で「最多の戦闘機と最多の爆撃機」を投入するとし、「敵が完全かつ決定的に敗北するまで、米国は容赦しない」と語った。「われわれは地球上のどの国にもない能力を持っている」とも強調した。イランがホルムズ海峡の石油輸送を阻止すれば、攻撃を強化する考えを改めて警告した格好だ。
同時に、「終わりのない戦い」にはならないと改めて強調し、米軍の作戦終了の判断はトランプ大統領が下すと語った。
米軍の制服組トップのケイン統合参謀本部議長も同じ会見で、米軍がイランの機雷敷設船を標的とした攻撃を実施していると明らかにした上で、「イランは戦っており、その点は尊重するが、当初想定していたほど手強いとは思わない」と語った。
米国防総省によると、米軍は作戦開始からこれまでに５０００以上の標的を攻撃し、イラン海軍の艦艇５０隻超を破壊もしくは損傷させた。
ケイン氏はまた、ホルムズ海峡を通航する船舶の護衛を命じられる状況に備え、国防総省は「幅広い選択肢を検討している」と語った。
