[シドニー ８日 ロイター] – オーストラリアのアルバニージー首相は８日、シドニーのボンダイビーチで１５人が死亡した銃乱射事件について、連邦王立委員会を設置して調査を実施すると発表した。
事件が昨年１２月１４日、ユダヤ教の祝祭の最中に発生したことを受け、反ユダヤ主義への規制と対策の強化を求める声が高まっている。
王立委員会は政府が設置する調査機関で、関係者に証言や情報提供を求める強い権限を持つ。委員会は銃乱射事件の経緯に加え、オーストラリアにおける反ユダヤ主義や社会的結束についても検証し、調査結果を今年１２月までに公表する見通しだ。
アルバニージー氏は当初、王立委員会の設置を求める声に対し、手続きに何年もかかるとして慎重な姿勢を示していた。しかし、ユダヤ人団体や犠牲者の家族から再考を求められ、対応が遅いと批判を受けていた。
