Japan and South Korea discuss joint oil stockpiles and the Trump-Xi meeting at the Andong summit.
TOKYO – Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung are scheduled to agree on a framework for cooperation to secure crude oil supplies, including joint reserve storage, during their summit on Tuesday, according to a report by business daily Nikkei.
The summit, to be held in Andong, Lee’s hometown, marks the first meeting between the two leaders since January, citing Reuters.
Under the cooperation, both countries will seek financial and technical support to build an oil reserve storage system, the report said.
The initiative is expected to utilise an existing energy cooperation framework with Southeast Asian countries.
In addition, the two leaders are also expected to exchange views on last week’s meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, according to the Nikkei report. (DK/ZH)
