[ワシントン ２８日 ロイター] – トランプ米大統領は２８日、訪米中のチャールズ英国王を迎えたホワイトハウスでの晩さん会で、英国王はイランの核兵器保有を望んでいないと発言し、中東紛争というセンシティブなテーマに踏み込んだ。
晩さん会は、チャールズ国王の４日間にわたる訪米日程の２日目に開かれた。トランプ氏は、対イラン攻撃への協力が不十分だとして英国のスターマー首相を繰り返し批判しており、米英関係が緊張する中での訪問となった。
トランプ氏は晩さん会で「われわれは今、中東で少しばかり仕事をしているところで、非常にうまくいっている」と語った。さらに「われわれはあの敵を軍事的に打ち負かした。あの敵には絶対に核兵器を持たせない。国王も私以上にこの点で同じ考えだ」と述べた。
トランプ氏に続いて発言したチャールズ国王は、イランや戦争には触れなかった。
チャールズ国王はこれに先立つ議会演説では、イラン戦争に直接言及しなかったが、トランプ氏の北大西洋条約機構（ＮＡＴＯ）批判を念頭に、ロシアと戦うウクライナへの米国の継続的な支援の重要性と、孤立主義の危険性を強調した。
