“Migrant worker champion admits failing to pay three migrant employees”
Tazvitya Mukorombindo…was the sole director and shareholder of a construction company, The Pro Team Ltd.
The company was put into liquidation in September 2023…
…the company also owed $282,680 to its former employees…
…the report that four company vehicles had been transferred to a third party prior to liquidation and “the liquidator is trying to locate the director to surrender some of the vehicles”.
The company was taken to the Employment Relations Authority in June last year by three migrant workers.
The Labour Inspectorate…claimed the company had not paid the minimum wage, public holiday pay, annual holiday pay and other employment entitlements.
One employee was owed $5297 for the four months they worked for the company. One was owed $6880 for the seven months they worked and the other was owed $4838 for the eight months they worked…
Mukorombindo accepted he was the sole person involved in the breaches and had been responsible for recruiting employees, instructing employees as to when and where they would work and carrying out payroll functions.
He indicated he was looking to make payments to the former employees but was not able to pay substantial amounts due to only having modestly paid work…
Mukorombindo, now based in Auckland, did not respond to a request for comment…
