[バルセロナ １９日 ロイター] – スペイン・バルセロナで週末に左派の国際会議が開催された。４０カ国以上から６０００人超が集まり、権威主義の台頭を食い止め、右傾化した有権者を取り戻すための方策について議論した。
会議は、トランプ米大統領の外交政策に対する率直な反対姿勢がイメージ向上につながったスペインのサンチェス首相（社会労働党）が主導。極右や国家主義勢力が生活費の高騰は移民や時代遅れの制度、現実離れした政治エリートの責任だと訴え、世界的に拡大する中で行われた。
ただ、トランプ氏の支持率低下やハンガリーでオルバン政権が１６年ぶりに退陣に追い込まれたことなどから、極右の勢いはピークに達した可能性があるとの期待が会議に活気を与えた。
南アフリカのラマポーザ大統領やブラジルのルラ大統領らは、国際機関の改革と新たな左派連合の確立を呼びかけ、聴衆を鼓舞した。
また、経済学者のガブリエル・ズックマン氏は、富裕層に対する増税を提唱した。この政策は欧州や米国の世論調査で非常に高い支持を得ているが、同氏の母国であるフランスでは議員によって否決された。
米民主党系シンクタンク「アメリカ進歩センター」のニーラ・タンデン所長は「卵を買う余裕もない人々が、民主主義を気にかけるのは難しい」と語った。
政治戦略コンサルティング会社マンデート・リサーチのマーカス・ロバーツ最高経営責任者（ＣＥＯ）は、勢力回復を望む左派政党は生活費など生活に直結する問題に取り組む必要があると指摘した。
