[ワシントン １日 ロイター] – トランプ米大統領は１日夜、国民向けの演説を行い、イランとの戦争における「中核的な戦略目標」がほぼ達成されつつあるとの考えを示した。今後２─３週間で極めて厳しい攻撃を加えるとも述べた。
イランの海軍と空軍を壊滅させ、弾道ミサイル・核開発計画を無力化したと主張した。
「これらの中核的な戦略目標がほぼ達成されつつあることは喜ばしい」とし、「われわれは仕事をやり遂げる、非常に迅速にやり遂げる」と述べた。
米国民の多くが戦争に反対し、世界的な石油供給の混乱によるガソリン価格の高騰に不満を抱く中、トランプ氏はこうした懸念に触れ、価格は再び下がると言明。「多くの米国民は最近の国内ガソリン価格の高騰を懸念している。この短期的な値上がりは、イランの政権が近隣諸国の商業用石油タンカーに対して行った狂気じみたテロ攻撃の結果に他ならない」と述べた。
戦争終結時期についてはコミットせず、終結が近いとしながらも、適切と判断すればエネルギー施設や石油施設の攻撃を開始すると述べた。
事実上の封鎖が続いているホルムズ海峡については、紛争が終われば自然に開放されると述べた。
