Bang & Olufsen（バング＆オルフセン）は去る5月に、Bluetoothスピーカー「Beosound A1」の3rd Gen（第3世代）を発売した。価格は￥¥55,900（税込）で、ナチュラルアルミニウム/ハニートーン/ユーカリプタスグリーンの3色をラインナップしている。
Beosound A1 3rd Genは、デンマークのデザイナーCecilie Manz（セシリエ・マンツ）氏とのコラボレーションにより生まれたモデルで、ミニマリストの美学と先進的な音響技術を調和させ、ポータブルサウンドの新たな道を切り開いた製品だ。

直径133mm、厚さ46mmのコンパクトなボディに3 1/4インチ ウーファーと0.6インチ ツイーターからなる同軸ユニットを搭載し、出力30WのClass Dアンプを2機使ってドライブしている。BluetoothコーデックはAACとaptX Adaptiveに対応し、54Hz〜20kHzの再生が可能という。単体ではモノーラル再生だが、2機ペアリングすることでステレオ再生も可能だ。
IP67の防塵・防水仕様で、家の中や屋外を問わず、どこにでも手軽に持ち運べるようになっている。内蔵バッテリーでの連続再生時間は最大24時間を実現。

さらにBeosound A1 3rd Genは、Bluetoothスピーカーとしては世界で初めてCradle to Cradle Certified（ブロンズレベル）を取得した製品とのことだ。Cradle to Cradle認証は、修理可能な製品設計を支援する目的で設定されたものでBeosound A1 3rd Genは今後登場する技術にも対応できるよう、充分な処理能力と接続技術を搭載しており、長期間製品を愛用できるように配慮されている。
そして今回、Beosound A1 3rd Genの発売を記念して、日本の木製家具メーカー カリモク家具とのコラボレーションによる専用スタンドが発表された。キャンペーン期間中にBeosound A1 3rd Genを公式オンラインストア、または一部専門店で購入した方にプレゼントされる。

このスタンドはクラフツマンシップを大切にしてきた両社のコラボレーションにより生まれたものという。円形のベースに直径2cmほどの円柱を取り付けた（2箇所をダボで固定）もので、すべて木材で作られている。
ベース部にはBeosound A1 3rd Genがすっぽり収まり、本体を正面に向けた形と斜め上に向けた2種類の設置が可能。音をしっかり聞きたい場合は正面向きに、BGM的に部屋中に音を広げたい場合は上向きといった具合に使い分けてもいいだろう。

高級楽器にも使われるサペリと淡いオークの2種類が用意されており、それぞれの材質によってBeosound A1 3rd Genを取り付けた場合の音も微妙に変化してくるとのこと。どちらの素材を選ぶかは注文時に選択できるが、数に限りがあるため希望に添えない場合もあるそうだ。
先日、東京・西麻布のカリモクリサーチセンターでBeosound A1 3rd Genとスタンドのお披露目が行われた。担当者氏によると、バング＆オルフセンはオーディオブランドではあるが、ただ製品を発売するだけではなく、ユーザーに音楽のある生活を提供し、快適なライフスタイルを実現していくことを目指しているそうだ。今回のカリモク家具との協業もその一環なのだろう。

余談ながらBeosound A1 3rd Genのスタンドは日本からの企画で実現したものだが、社内でも注目を集めたとかで、世界中で同様のキャンペーンが展開されるかもしれないとのことだ。
そのスタンドは、3名のデザイナーによるコンペで決定したとかで、会場には3種類のプロトタイプが並べられていた。六角形をイメージしたプロトタイプ1、半円形のプロトタイプ2、そしてプロトタイプ3がプレゼント用として選ばれたデザインとなる。いずれもBeosound A1 3rd Genのフォルムを生かしたデザインだが、プロトタイプ3はそのシンプルさと設置方法の多様さが決め手になったのだろう。
