[ワシントン １１日 ロイター] – ロシア軍に属してウクライナで戦闘活動をしている１００人余りの中国人は傭兵で、中国政府と直接的な関係があるようには見えない――。情報関係に詳しい米政府高官２人とある元西側情報機関幹部がこうした見解を示した。
ただ元西側情報機関幹部の話では、ロシア軍の前線近くには、戦訓を得ようと中国政府の承認を得た人民解放軍の軍人が姿を現しているという。
ウクライナのゼレンスキー大統領は、約１５５人の中国人がロシアのために戦っているとの情報を得ていると発言。その後米インド太平洋軍のパパロ司令官は９日、ウクライナ軍が東部で中国籍の２人を捕虜にしたことを確認した。
中国側はゼレンスキー氏の発言を「無責任」と非難し、ロシアとウクライナの戦争で中国は当事者になっていないと明言した。
２人の米政府高官は、中国人の兵士は最低限の訓練しか受けておらず、ロシア軍の作戦に何か目に見えるほどの影響を与えてはいないと話している。
