REPORT
Gritty win!
We proved that our place in the League did not reflect our true value.
But it was somewhat an ironical win. Once again, a red card can influence a game. This time the cards were reversed when a Kyoto player was red-carded for a second yellow card offense following a dangerous play, which changed a fairly even play into a marked S-Pulse domination.
Once again, the starting line-up was profoundly changed into a 3-4-3 formation which took some time to click.
The game did begin with a marked domination from Kyoto when Umeda was stretched in the 8thminute in an attack finally aborted inside the box when a Kyoto player clumsily fouled a S-Pulse defender for the first of no less than 5 yellow cards dished to an overaggressive team.
In the 10th minute Umeda had to stretch himself again to parry a long-range shot allowed by some indecisive defense.
In the 16th minute a Kyoto forward beat the offside line to lob a helpless Umeda.
S-Pulse created their first chance in the 32nd minute when Oh stretched the Kyoto keeper full length with a vicious long-range shot.
In the 1st minute of extra time Umeda had to dive to palm away a strong shot from outside the box.
In the enduing corner a Kyoto forward was yellow-carded for the second time into a re card following a very dangerous play, and that changed the second half.
The game was sealed with a few minutes by two individual exploits. First in the 64th minute Uno was allowed too much freedom outside the box before he unleashed a low skidding shot that beat a blinded opposite keeper.
He was followed in the 68th minute when Shimamoto did not send the expected cross from the corner of the box and instead drilled the perfect shot to lodge the ball in high inside ethe far post.
In the 78th minute Yoshiki Takahashi had the chance to widen the lead but his fierce shot just flew over the bar.
5 minutes in extra time Oh’s fine crossed shot was only denied by the far post.
Considering the constant tinkering with the starting members, every player knows he has a chance to be selected and that should augur well for the future.
Now we will have to confirm on Wednesday at home against Cerezo Osaka in front of our faithful fans!
