［ニューヨーク １６日 ロイター］ – トランプ米大統領の一族が運営するトランプ・オーガニゼーションは１６日、トランプブランドによるモバイルサービスと４９９ドルのスマートフォンなどを手がける「トランプ・モバイル」の立ち上げを表明した。保守層を取り込む狙い。米国に拠点を置くコールセンターを立ち上げるほか、米国製スマートフォンも手がける。
米３大ワイヤレスキャリアのネットワークを利用して運営される。事業における一族のパートナーやライセンス契約の金銭的条件などは明らかにされなかった。
大統領の長男ドナルド・トランプ・ジュニア氏はニューヨークのトランプ・タワーで「月々の定額料金で、遠隔医療や自動車ロードサービス、世界１００カ国への無制限のテキストメッセージ送信などを含む製品パッケージを導入する」と表明した。発表後に公開されたウェブサイトには、９月から販売予定のトランプブランドのスマートフォンと、月額４７．４５ドルのネットワークのプラン詳細が掲載されている。
この月額は２期目の現在が第４７代大統領で、１期目が第４５代大統領だったトランプ氏にちなんでいる。
また、「米国で設計・製造」される「ゴールドのスマートフォン」の発売も発表された。

トランプ大統領の次男エリック氏は１６日にポッドキャストで、８月までに出荷される最初の機器は米国製ではない可能性を示唆。「最終的には、全ての携帯電話は米国で製造することができる」と語った。
＜残る利益相反懸念＞
トランプ大統領の事業の大半を統括する持株会社「トランプ・オーガニゼーション」は、トランプ氏の大統領返り咲きに先立ち、管理を子供たちに移管すると発表している。ただ、利益相反に関する懸念は残っている。
トランプ氏の商標を管理するＤＴＴＭオペレーションズは、通信関連サービスにおけるトランプ氏の名前と「Ｔ１」という用語の使用を申請。１２日に米特許商標庁に提出された出願書類は、端末やケース、充電器などのほか、無線通話サービス、販売店までを含んでいる。
米スマートフォン業界は、飽和状態が強い中、競争が激しい。米国では年６０００万台以上のスマートフォンが販売されているが、米国の人件費の高さや部品調達の問題からほぼすべて海外製だ。米モバイル通信市場は３大事業者の支配が強く、９５％以上を占めている。
