[ロンドン／ニューヨーク ２日 ロイター] – 米メキシコ湾屈指の有望な超深海油田とされる「シェナンドア油田」の権益最大５１％を売却するための競争入札手続きがこのほど開始された。
中東の紛争を受けて北米におけるエネルギー事業への関心が高まる中で、複数の関係者によると、フランスのエネルギー大手トタルエナジーズ(TTEF.PA), opens new tab、英石油大手シェル(SHEL.L), opens new tabとＢＰ(BP.L), opens new tab、スペイン石油大手レプソル(REP.MC), opens new tabなどの欧州勢、米石油大手シェブロン(CVX.N), opens new tabが応札を検討している。
売却対象権益を保有するのは、米投資会社ブラックストーンが支援するビーコン・オフショア・エナジー、クオンタム・キャピタル・グループとヒューストン・エナジーが所有するＨＥＱディープウォーターの両社。残る４９％の権益はイスラエル企業の持ち分となっている。
関係者の話では、１回目の入札が数週間以内に行われる見通し。中東やアジアのエネルギー企業も応札に加わる可能性があるという。
シェナンドア油田の原油・天然ガスは総深度約３万フィート（約９０００メートル）の深海に埋蔵されているため、高水圧下での探査や開発は技術的に極めて難しい。ただメキシコ湾岸で最も大きな可能性を秘めたプロジェクトの一つと考えられている。
同油田は昨年７月に生産を開始し、運営主体のビーコン・オフショア・エナジーは同１０月、フェーズ１（最初の商業生産段階）において開発した４つの油井の生産量が目標とする日量１０万バレルを達成したと発表した。
