[香港 ２６日 ロイター] – 香港北部の大埔（タイポ）地区にある集合住宅で２６日、火災が発生し少なくとも消防士１人を含め３１人が死亡した。、逃げ遅れて建物内に閉じ込められている人も多くいるもよう。
消防当局によると、８棟およそ２０００ 戸が入る３１階建ての高層アパートで、現地時間の午後２時５１分（日本時間午後３時５１分）に火災が発生したとの通報があった。強風にあおられ８棟のうち７棟に火がまわり、黒煙が立ち上るなか夕刻から夜になっても消火活動は続いていた。改修工事で竹の足場で覆われており、これが崩れ落ちる様子も目撃された。
屋内に取り残された住人がどの程度いるのか把握できていない。負傷者も１０人以上でている。
地元のテレビ局によると、火災が発生した複合アパートは１年ほど前から大規模な改修工事中で、竹の足場で覆われていた。香港は世界でも珍しく、建築・工事現場の足場に竹がまだ広く使われている。安全性の問題から当局は３月、竹の足場利用を段階的に廃止する措置を打ち出し、公共工事の５０％に金属製足場の使用を義務付けると発表した。
